WHY I CHOSE ANIMAS
There are many reasons for students to choose Animas High school Those reasons can be different for anyone based on their needs as learners and growers. For me, personally, one of the most important factors to success is a good environment. Sure, that is semi-provided at other schools, but none like Animas High School. Culture is not all about having a high number of students or particular materials, it is what you make of the situation. That is the key to success, without learning to take the initiative in your learning, you will not be as balanced and successful in life. To be an osprey means to embrace what you are given and how you're able to take responsibility. What would one do without? I have seen this throughout my experiences at schools. Being a student for my whole life so far, I have experienced many different school environments and cultures, but none as positive as the culture embraced at Animas. School is more than just letting others teach for you and to never to hands on learning. It is about being able to have skills that will help you throughout life.

P.A.P.E.R. is just the example of that. Perspective, advocacy, perserverance, evidence, and refinement. This is what shapes the base of learning and positive growing/communication. One of those that I see most of all is advocacy. Advocacy is the ability to understand ones responsibilities and priorities and being able to express your needs as a student to your peers, adults, teachers, or anyone for that matter. That is something that really brought me to Animas, the room for growth and balance rather than stress and closed mindsets. This give some the ability to form positive student-teacher relationships that you keep with you for the rest of your high school career and even beyond. I couldn't even imagine myself in a place where I didn't have that. After advocacy and building relationship with students and teachers comes opportunity. For example, one opportunity is being an ambassador. Being an ambassador is something I didn't consider before Animas, but after becoming confident in the school, I want to show to the people who struggle with their academic situation our school. Especially because I have the opportunity to be apart of the new building design process. By the end of sophomore year summer, I will have the ability to have 3 total college credits by doing challenging, Independent work in Denver. Do many opportunities arise like that at most schools? The answer is, not really. I am proud to say that I love the school I go to and that no matter my situation may be, I will always have my school to back me up as a student, a teacher to some, and a friend.
